Utica, New York (December, 2015) – The recovery community is speaking out to educate friends, neighbors, policymakers and the media about the reality of recovery. On Tuesday, December 15, Center for Family Life and Recovery, Inc. (CFLR, Inc.) and Friends of Recovery New York (FOR-NY) are hosting two events that will change the landscape of our recovery community. Our Stories Have Power: Recovery Community Messaging Training will take place from 5:00 PM to 6:00 PM, with Recovery Talks: The Community Listening Forum on Addiction and Recovery taking place directly after from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM. Both events will be held at CFLR, Inc.’s Utica office location (502 Court Street, Suite 401). Attendance at both events is not necessary, but it is encouraged.
Our Stories Have Power: Recovery Community Messaging Training will give people in recovery and their family members tips on appropriate language and messaging techniques, which will be useful when talking about recovery with others. Recovery Talks: The Community Listening Forum on Addiction and Recovery, part of a series of local forums being held across New York State, will provide community members the opportunity to share personal experiences in dealing with alcohol and drug addiction, loss of a family member or friend, as well as recovery from addiction.
Together we can change the conversation about addiction and recovery. For more information, please contact Judith H. Reilly, CPP, Services Director at (315) 733-1709 or jreilly@cflrinc.org.
