Rome, NY (2024) – The Center for Family Life and Recovery (CFLR) will hold its annual “Light of Hope” ceremony on Friday, September 6th at Bellamy Harbor Park in Rome, from 5:00 to 8:00 pm. This event was created to raise awareness and provide support for those affected by substance use, addiction, overdose, suicide, and related stigma.
National Recovery and Suicide Awareness Months are held annually in September to bring community awareness to the warning signs of suicide and the importance of recovery. A focal point for Suicide Awareness is how to act – when to call or text 988. Suicide is currently the 12th leading cause of death as statistics show that someone dies by suicide every 40 seconds, leading to over 800,000 deaths. According to Sienna College Research Institute, “Sixty-eight percent, or two-in-three New York residents have been touched by opioid abuse, meaning they either know someone in their lives who has abused opioids or personally know someone who has died due to an opioid overdose.” This is an increase of seven percent over the last four years. Together, CFLR offers help and hope in the face of tragedy.
Join us for resources, peer engagement, music, and a luminary vigil. Sponsorship opportunities are available to expand our impact and achieve our vision to create a world where people have the power to achieve and celebrate recovery. CFLR encourages paying tribute to recovery warriors and remembering those lost to overdose, suicide, or mental health struggles by purchasing a luminary (1 for $5 or 3 for $10) at the event or in advance, online, by visiting: https://secure.qgiv.com/for/centerforfamilylifeandrecovery/event/lightofhope.
The “Light of Hope” event acknowledges the profound grief felt by families and friends whose loved ones have died from suicide or a drug overdose. CFLR aims to highlight that drug overdose deaths and suicides are preventable tragedies. This event provides a platform for love, compassion, outreach, and healing, while also offering educational opportunities to reduce stigma. All proceeds benefit the programs and services of
